The Industry
Instructors can go on to work as platform artists, educators, and more teaching cutting edge techniques at beauty and trade shows. Another option is to get into the world of product sales and distribution or even become involved with your state's board of cosmetology. Licensed instructors may also find work as a cosmetology instructor working in spas and salons, perhaps as an owner, or on cruise ships. They may also take jobs as a chemical technician, photo stylist or state board examiner.

Whichever direction you choose to go in, the beauty world is an exciting business with endless job opportunities. If you're looking for a career that offers a ton of flexibility, is artistic and creative, and you have a love of teaching; then becoming a cosmetology instructor is right for you. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) job growth for the cosmetology industry should continue at a faster-than-average rate from 2008 to 2018 (www.bls.gov). This could mean a 20% increase in employment opportunities over the decade. Such growth should not only apply to cosmetologists, but also to cosmetology instructors. The belief is that as more full-service salons and spas open and as people are seeking appearance improvements, more job openings will be needed.

After completing this course, you will have the freedom to teach almost anywhere in the country.
